The Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 10 led by Regional Director Loreto T. Bhagwani joined in the celebration of the 111th Philippine Independence Day last June 12.
In a crowd comprised of members of various agencies, non-government organizations and local officials, the DILG regional and Misamis Oriental provincial office personnel joined in the activity for the Independence Day program at Provincial Capitol grounds. Booths from these various agencies and from the local sector can be seen along the sides to cater to job applicants afterwards.
Secretary Neri further made a call to everyone to continue their support to SSS and to the national leadership. He cited the relevance of SSS contribution to the country’s economic activity.
Earlier, Secretary Neri and Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno led the raising of the Philippine flag and the wreath-laying afterwards.
In his speech, Governor Moreno cited this year’s celebration as also reinforcing the need to unite in order to serve the people the best way possible. He recognizes the unity and teamwork by the national government and the local level. He had observed this during his term that in every project from the local level, a department or bureau from the national agencies gave a hand or assistance to these joint projects.
“It makes delivery (of services) easy and felt by the local people, “Governor Moreno noted.
In reference to the occasion that day, the governor said that the essence of independence is the ability of working with one another. “Independence always connotes the ability to think and act independently,” he added.
Also present during the program were the local officials and functionaries of the provincial government led by Vice Governor Norris Babiera, Regional Directors from various NGAs, the local sector and other guests.
Towards the end of the program, Governor Moreno and Secretary Neri distributed emergency employment contracts from various line agencies and local government units under the Comprehensive Livelihood Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP). Meanwhile, livelihood awards program were also given by some NGAs namely DENR, DOLE, OWWA, DOST and DSWD.
The CLEEP aims to protect the most vulnerable sectors, such as the poor, hungry, returning expatriates, workers in the export industry, out of school youth, etc. from threatened consequences of reduced or lost income resulting from the global economic crisis. It specifically aims to fund and supervise livelihood projects that are immediate and hire for emergency employment. ###
